Description
Wassily Kandinsky was born in Moscow in 1866 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine in France in 1944.
Considered one of the most important painters of the 20th century , he is often considered the author of the first work of abstract art. Kandinsky's fame is linked to his progressive rejection of any figurative element in his painting .
Composition VIII is a painting created in 1923. This work is exhibited at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. It was considered by the artist as the peak of his production.
Composition VIII is representative of his theory of associations of colors and geometric shapes. This work is one of the ten paintings named " Compositions": the most accomplished and longest-worked works according to Kandinsky.
Abstract art is art that does not contain no evocation of observed reality: it breaks with a traditional conception of art as an imitation of nature. It leaves room for everyone's imagination: everyone can see what they feel.
