The years 1902-1903 constitute a turning point in Klimt's work: it is a period of intense creativity where he begins the realization of the Golden Cycle (or "golden period"). Gustav Klimt is known for his use of gold leaf in his paintings (discovered after seeing Bysantine mosaics).
Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession and Art Nouveau movements.
